The strength of the Central Texas tech / startup / creativity scene helps SXSW thrive as an epicenter of innovation. Some of the most interesting events in Austin for the week of July 24 through July 30 are as follows:

  1. Tuesday, August 1: Badge Sales for SXSW 2018 Begin
    Buy your Interactive, Film, Music or Platinum badge when sales begin at 10:00 am CDT on the morning of Tuesday, August 1 for the best price and for the most options for downtown hotel lodging.
  2. Tuesday, August 1: Bank SNB Austin Entrepreneur’s Hour (FREE)
    Join Bank SNB for their “First Tuesday” series of networking events spotlighting local entrepreneurs and their game-changing products and services. Our event will have prize giveaways, complimentary beer, wine and light hors d’oeuvres. We will also have a 15-minute spotlight of up to three Austin/Domain-based businesses. At Bank SNB at 5:30 pm.
  3. Tuesday, August 1: The Austin Forum (FREE)
    The August 2017 edition of this monthly lecture series covers “Blockchain: Transforming Business, Society and Humanity.” Speakers include Christa Clark (SkunkworxLab), Jeremy Drzal (BLOCK 512), Ashish Gadnis (BanQu), and Richard Hurley (Governance Chain). At Galvanize at 5:45 pm.
  4. Wednesday, August 2: Talk Data to Me (FREE)
    Frog Design Senior Data Scientist Ricky Hennessy discusses the possibilities that data brings to life. He will cover how today’s wealth of data drives business and product decisions in the creative agency setting and share their visions for the future. You will learn how you can leverage data in your role — no matter what industry you are involved in. At General Assembly at 6:30 pm.
  5. Wednesday, August 2: Rocket Fuel for Founders (FREE)
    Meet Laura Alter, who co-founded an online business in 2001 that sold over $1M of product in the first year. Since selling that business in 2006, she has held key marketing and operational leadership roles in several bootstrapped and angel-funded, growth-stage eCommerce, lead generation, and SaaS start-ups. At Capital Factory at 6:30 pm.
  6. Thursday, August 3: Amazon Web Services Startup Day (FREE)
    Launching a successful startup takes more than building on the most flexible, reliable, and scalable infrastructure available today. AWS is comprised of many former entrepreneurs and engineers that helped build some of the most recognizable startup brands in the world. At AWS Startup Day, you’ll learn from these former startup experts about best practices that go beyond designing your infrastructure. At the Hyatt Regency at 9:00 am.
  7. Friday, August 4: SXSW Community Award Entry Deadline (FREE)
    Apply for your chance to be one of ten winners who will each receive a $5000 grant. Five individual winners and five group winners. Entry extended from original deadline of Friday, July 28.
  8. August 4–6: Act-W Austin Conference
    ACT-W is dedicated to Advancing the Careers of Technical Women and celebrating supporters of diversity, inclusion, education, and growth!
    Join us and 300+ individuals for speaking sessions, hands-on workshops, one-on-one coaching sessions, a career/exhibit fair, and so much more. This regional, happy hour and two-day conference focuses on providing content that addresses the unique women-in-tech landscape in the Austin and surrounding cities area. At Norris Conference Center. Tickets $30-$60.
