At 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 22 in Austin, Galvanize hosts the presentation “Have we Sacrificed Autonomy for Certainty.”

Data science has fundamentally changed the way we interact with the world. From navigation around town, picking the books we read, or restaurants we dine at, analytic models relieve our cognitive load. However, this relief comes at a cost, as we are increasingly forgoing the right to make choices independent of the crowd.

The presenter for this lecture is Dr. Joseph A. Gartner III, a principal data scientist and data science instructor at Galvanize. His most recent work saw him contributing to the DARPA XData project where he focused on the large scale natural language processing, and graph representation of text data for the purpose of event detection.

Admission to the August 22 is free (but register here to ensure your spot). Galvanize Austin is located at 119 Nueces Street. Doors open and networking begins at 6:15 pm.
