Aug 29: AI Startups & the Military in Texas
The Forrest Four-Cast: August 26, 2018
Who would have imagined that the once-sleepy college town of Austin would eventually host the US Army’s biggest new project since 1973? Indeed, the booming Central Texas metropolis of the 21st century has become an attractive destination for all kinds of new industries, as witnessed at the Army Futures Command launch ceremony last week.
Learn more about this new presence in Austin at a special presentation at Capital Factor on the evening of Wednesday, August 29 titled: “How the Military is Unleashing Artificial Intelligence Startups in Texas.”
Hosted by the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), this August 29 session will cover the story behind how an artificial intelligence startup won a $1 million contract to bring its predictive maintenance tech to the Army, only 60 miles away at Fort Hood.
The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is an entity within the Department of Defense charged with accelerating and streamlining the process by which commercial technology is sourced and integrated across the military. Since 2016, DIU has provided over $226 million in non-dilutive capital to solve national defense problems. The DIU presence in Austin dates began with a press conference by then Secretary of Defense Ash Carter in September 2016.
The Wednesday, August 29 session begins runs from 6:00–9:00 pm. BBQ, drinks, and 3D-printed robots will be provided by Capital Factory. RSVP here to ensure your spot at this special presentation.
