The strength of the Central Texas technology / startup scene helps SXSW thrive as an epicenter of innovation. Some of the most interesting events in Austin for the week of June 12 through June 18 are as follows:

Monday, June 12: Texas Leads in Biotech (FREE)
America’s Biopharmaceutical Companies and Austin Community College’s Bioscience Incubator (ABI) host a panel discussion in partnership with the Texas Tribune that will focus on innovation in the Lone Star bioscience industry. At Austin Community College Highland Campus at 9:00 am.

Monday, June 12: Hacking Hangout (FREE)
This is a monthly programming study group and networking meetup. You are welcome to work on anything you would like in our friendly and helpful environment. Coders of all abilities are welcome! Bringing a friend is highly recommended. Coding is more fun with friends! At Ordoro at 6:30 pm.

Monday, June 12: Building Your Audience From Scratch (FREE)
Come here Mike Belsito, the Co-Founder of Product Collective which organizes INDUSTRY, a conference in the midwest for people that build, launch, and scale world class products. He also wrote the book “Startup Seed Funding for the Rest of Us,” which debuted at the top of Product Hunt. Belsito’s products and businesses that he has crated have been featured in national media outlets like The Atlantic, Inc Magazine, CNN, PBS and the New York Times. At Galvanize at 7:00 pm.

Tuesday, June 13: Tour of Tech Ranch (FREE)

Tuesday, June 13: Civic Hack Night (FREE)
Open Austin’s bi-monthly Civic Hack Night is a hands on meet up for “hackers” interested in contributing to civic apps. Developers, designers, writers, data analyst, policy wonks and people of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. At Dev Bootcamp at 6:30 pm.

Wednesday, June 14: The Future of Health Care Conference
Thought leaders from Austin and elsewhere will discuss the future of health care reform, hospital partnerships, medical philanthropy, prescription drugs and health tech investing. At Capital Factory at 7:30 am. Tickets $120-$150.

Wednesday, June 14: Common Tax Mistakes for Entrepreneurs (FREE)
Have you ever wondered if there were tax and accounting tricks that would keep your startup from making fatal errors in its early years? Attend this presentation by Partners Jay Mezera and Harold Ingersoll of Atchley & Associates, LLP regarding the biggest accounting and tax mistakes made by startups. At Galvanize at noon.

Wednesday, June 14: The Evolution of Conversational UX (FREE)
During this webinar, we will talk about the impact of chatbots on consumers in regard to the user experience, interface design and some relevant use cases. Wednesday, June 14: Data Science Info Session (FREE)

Wednesday, June 14: Austin Transportation Panel (FREE)
Join the Austin Monitor, Glasshouse Policy, Imagine Austin, and TransitCenter-a national foundation dedicated to improving urban mobility, to discuss public transit changes that are working, or not working, in cities across the country. Wednesday, June 14: Technology Choices for Startups (FREE)
When you build a startup, you come face to face with the challenge of building something out of nothing. This craziness is somehow great fun and a huge struggle all at the same time! At this event, we’ll have a discussion about some of the tools that are out there for companies to take advantage of. At Capital Factory at 7:00 pm.

Wednesday, June 14: SXSW PanelPicker Meet Up (FREE)
The process for entering speaking proposals for SXSW 2018 begins on Monday, June 26 (and closes on Friday July 21). Come learn more about the PanelPicker process for next year’s event, as well as meet key SXSW staffers. At TechSpace at 7:00 pm.

Thursday, June 14: LGBT in Tech Meet Up (FREE)
This gathering brings technology professionals and entrepreneurs in Austin together for meaningful conversations, motivation and inspiration! At Capital Factory at 5:00 pm.

Thursday, June 15: Campfire Networking Event (FREE)
Campfire is all about connecting you to the larger tech startup community. Every 3rd Thursday at 5:30 PM, we gather interesting, accomplished people from across Austin’s vast entrepreneur ecosystem so you can get the introductions, insight, and help you need to move your business forward, while also helping others. At Tech Ranch at 5:30 pm.

Thursday, June 15: Austin Hardware Startup Meet Up (FREE)
We are a get-together for all things hardware startups. The purpose of this group is to bring together folks interested in building businesses around physical technology products — to grow the Austin hardware community, raise awareness of hardware startups and resources, and learn from each other and those who have done it before. At Capital Factory at 6:30 pm.

Thursday, June 15: How to Raise $100M the Valley Way (FREE)
Hear from one of Austin’s most successful serial entrepreneurs Alan Knitowski of Phunware as he describes his journey from Silicon Valley to Silicon Beach to Silicon Hills.
