Best of the Best: So Many SXSW Finalists!
The Forrest Four-Cast: January 24, 2017
As we move into late January, more and more finalists for the various SXSW 2017 competitions are being revealed. These finalists represent the most impressive up-and-coming talent in a variety of different verticals. Four of the most intriguing competitions include:
- David Carr Prize. Named in honor of the late New York Times columnist who was such a fixture at SXSW, this event was launched in December 2015. Click the link above to read the tech-focused essays of the five finalists. Winner announced on the evening of Tuesday, March 14.
- SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards. Finalists for this event come from 13 different categories including “Innovative 3-DIY,” “New Economy,” “Privacy & Security,” “Scifi No Longer,” Smart Cities” and “VR & AR.” Winners announced on evening of Tuesday, March 14. Also be sure to attend the SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards Finalist Showcase on Sunday, March 12.
- SXSW Accelerator Pitch Event. Earlier today, we announced the startups which made the cut for SXSW Accelerator. As in previous years, this group has a distinctly international flair, pulling together founders from places like Austin, Barcelona, Brussels, Chicago, Calgary, Istanbul, Liverpool, London, Milan, Moscow, New York, Palo Alto, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto, and Vancouver. Watch them pitch their next-generation companies, products, services and apps on Saturday, March 11 through Monday, March 13.
- SXSW Community Service Awards. Previously known as the Dewey Awards, this get-together recognizes leaders who use technology to improve their local communities. Attend the special ceremony on Monday evening, March 13 to honor these ten amazing do-gooders.
Winners in each of these competitions will be announced on-site — purchase your badge to be there in person (and save $100 if you buy before February 10). The one exception to this directive is the SXSW Community Service Awards, which are free free free for all to attend.
