Exciting New Elements at SXSW 2017
The Forrest Four-Cast: November 5, 2016
We are still a little over four months until March Magic in Austin. In addition to the currently-confirmed programming for the 2017 event, more Featured Speakers will be announced the week of November 14. Until then, let’s review four of the biggest changes for next spring.
- New Badge Structure. For 2017, all SXSW badges will have much more functionality to attend all elements of SXSWeek. This new functionality will lead to a lot more discovery, a lot more learning and — most importantly — a lot more incredible networking opportunities. Watch this short video for the full explanation of how the new system adds even more value to your SXSW experience.
- New Categories for SXSW Accelerator. We have also added several new categories to the SXSW Accelerator Pitch Event, including “Sports,” “Transportation,” and “Payment & FinTech.” If you are a startup, then be sure to apply to this competition before the Friday, November 11 deadline. We will accept entries up until 11:59 pm central time.
- New Tracks for the SXSW Conference. Registrants can now choose compelling conference content from 24 different tracks. Some of the new additions for the 2017 schedule include “Development & Code,” “Experiential Storytelling,” “Journalism,” “Tech Industry,” and “Touring & Live Experience.” Click on the schedule page to see which tracks happen on which days — then buy your badge before prices increase at the end of the day on Friday, November 18.
- New Event: SXSW Gaming. Another big change for 2017 is that SXSW Gaming has split off into its own event, which occurs March 16–18 at the Austin Convention Center. Entry to SXSW Gaming is free for all SXSW badgeholders. Or, if you don’t have a SXSW badge, then you can buy a SXSW Gaming Pass and only attend this programming. Gaming Passes go on sale on Monday, November 28.
