Scary Sounding Sessions for SXSW 2017
The Forrest Four-Cast: October 30, 2016
The ghosts and goblins of Halloween 2016 pale in comparison to the horrors of this presidential election cycle. But, presuming we make it through the national nightmare of November 8, here are 10 particularly scary sessions scheduled for SXSW 2017 next spring in Austin.
- A Tale of Murder: Why Netflix Killed Max: The talking concierge service that was successful in testing with Netflix users never got to meet the mainstream. Why was the Max service silenced before it was allowed to see the light of day?
- Ghosted: Authenticity in a Ghostwritten Age: This session explore what ghostwritten celebrity memoirs can teach us about the negotiation of fame; what it means when a politician claims to speak from the heart; and what the implications are for all of us when our own inner ghostwriters take over, and the narratives we present become increasingly separate from reality.
- Psychopaths in Silicon Valley: A Guide: According to the description of this panel, “Whether you’re living the startup life or laughing at its caricature portrayal in HBO’s Silicon Valley, you’ve likely used the word “psychopath” as a casual insult. Is there any truth to it? There are uncanny parallels in the description of a glorified tech exec or online troll and the clinical definition of a psychopath, and the latter can cause massive damage to an organization or community.”
- Trolls: To Feed Or Not To Feed: Attend this panel to hear horror stories from the social media managers responsible for keeping a page clean, and hear what drove the blasting from some of the internet’s top trolls.
