Over the last six weeks, I’ve shared various audio and video files from SXSW 2017. These columns have gotten some pretty good traction — people definitely enjoy absorbing this content, particularly if they missed it the first time around in Austin.

But for today’s edition of the Forrest Four-Cast, I wanted to shine a little light on the recent podcast I did with Aaron Strout of the W2O Group. This 30-minute conversation covers a little of the back-story on how I got involved with SXSW way back in 1989, plus some of my favorite moments from over the years. As noted in the pull quote above, we also talk about the role of SXSW in both identifying and defining the trends of tomorrow.

One brief note of factual clarification for this podcast. When not expressing my love for Bruce Springsteen, I also mention a cool three-piece band from Beijing that I caught a few years back. As opposed to how I mis-identified them on the recording, the correct name of that randomly-discovered group is Carsick Cars. You should try to see them if you ever get a chance!

Otherwise, thanks much to the W2O Group for their production work on this podcast and for their ongoing support. This agency’s annual pre-SXSW event has helped bring some neat people to Austin, including John Batelle of NewCo. Click here to watch John interview of me at the W2O Group’s March 2016 gathering.
