July 24: Chuck Klosterman in ATX
The Forrest Four-Cast: July 19, 2019
When I grow up, I want to become a writer. And when I become a writer, I want to become a writer like Chuck Klosterman — someone who weaves together strong opinions about music, sports, pop culture and politics in a style that is equally unconventional and entertaining.
Catch Klosterman at BookPeople in Austin on Wednesday, July 24 at 7:00 pm, when he’ll be talking about “Raised in Captivity” with Shea Serrano of the Ringer
According to the press release, “Raised in Captivity” does not slot into a smooth preexisting groove. If Saul Steinberg and Italo Calvino had adopted a child from a Romanian orphanage and raised him on Gary Larsen and Thomas Bernhard, he would still be nothing like Chuck Klosterman. They might be good company, though. Funny, wise and weird in equal measure, “Raised in Captivity” bids fair to be one of the most original and exciting story collections in recent memory, a fever graph of our deepest unvoiced hopes, fears and preoccupations.
Other Klosterman books include “Fargo Rock City,” “Downtown Owl,” “Killing Yourself to Live” and my personal favorite “Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto.”
