Sept 15: DeRay Mckesson’s Case for Hope

The Forrest Four-Cast: September 12, 2018

Book People is bringing Mckesson to Austin on Saturday, September 15, at 6:00 pm for a lecture titled “On the Other Side of Freedom.” This event occurs at the Central Presbyterian Church (200 E 8th St) and you must purchase a ticket to attend — with this event ticket, you will get a copy of his new book.

On September 15, Mckesson will be sure to explain the ubiquitous blue vest that he wears to remember the 400 days he spent protesting the shooting death of Michael Brown by police in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014. These protests, and others like them across the country, resulted in the birth of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Based in Baltimore, Mckesson is also a co-founder of Campaign Zero, a policy platform to end police violence. In laying out a framework for a new liberation movement, he discusses oppression, racial injustice, and how technology brings new opportunity for mass action and social change. The hope comes as Mckesson asks all Americans to work to address racism as well as imagine and build a more equal future for all.
