Today’s Giant SXSW Announcement
The Forrest Four-Cast: October 17, 2017
Later this morning, SXSW will announce more Keynotes, more Featured Speakers, and more than 750+ sessions for March 2017 in Austin. Covering everything from Startups to Social Impact, this content spans the 24 different tracks that will be part of the 2017 event. I will link to the post on the SXSW website that reveals these sessions as soon as this post goes live.
UPDATE: Click here to see the full October 17 announcement including Keynotes from innovators such as Gareth Edwards (Director of “Rogue One”) and Adam Grant (author of “Originals: How Non-Conformists Rule the World”), plus Featured Speakers, as well as panels, solo presentations, book readings and workshops.
The majority of the sessions that will be announced today came via community-generated ideas entered earlier this summer in the SXSW PanelPicker. These ideas are posted on a unique public-facing voting interface during the month of August such that all web users can weigh in on which proposals they like most. All ideas entered via the SXSW PanelPicker are also evaluated by the SXSW Advisory Board and by SXSW Staff. Having three different evaluation inputs helps ensure that the best ideas rise to the top — and that the PanelPicker process is not simply a reflection of who has the most online followers.
If you missed out on the PanelPicker process for March 2017, then please mark your calendar for June 2017. This is when we will start accepting speaking proposals for SXSW 2018. Yes, asking for speaking ideas eight months before the event begins creates many challenges. But remember that the best speaking proposals are usually the ones that focus on big-picture issues — not day-to-day, week-to-week product releases.
Also, please mark your calendar for Friday, October 21, which is the deadline for saving big on your SXSW 2017 badge. Purchase your registration for next March in Austin by the end of the day on Friday, October 21 to save up to $400 on walkup rates. Also, be sure to watch this short video to understand all the improved / enhanced badge functionality for the 2017 event.
